January 25, 2024 – Some Robitussin cough syrup products are being recalled nationwide resulting from potentially fatal microbial contamination.
The company that produces Robitussin syrups has not specified what microorganisms could also be present within the products. The Recall announcement Haleon, a world manufacturer of consumer health products, said the contamination may lead to fungal infections, or the presence of fungi or yeast in an individual's blood. To date, the corporate has not received any reports that individuals have develop into sick resulting from the recalled products.
The recall applies to bottles of Robitussin Honey CF Max Day and Robitussin Honey CF Max Nighttime. Both varieties are for adults. The affected products were sold nationwide and have specific batch numbers on the underside of the back of the bottle. Consumers can view the batch numbers on the FDA Recall website.
The company warned that individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of life-threatening health problems from the cough syrup.
“Life-threatening infections are unlikely to occur in non-immunocompromised consumers, the population most likely to use the product,” Haleon’s recall notice said. “However, the occurrence of an infection that could require medical intervention cannot be completely ruled out.”
People who’ve affected products should stop using them immediately. The company asked anyone who has the products to email Haleon [email protected]or call the corporate at 800-245-1040, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to six p.m. Eastern Time.
