Dr Lee was among the many experts contributing to a special issue of the British Journal of Health and Exercise. The Lancet Commemorating the 2012 Olympic Games in London. He and his colleagues drew on reports of several large observational studies conducted world wide wherein participants answered questions on their lifestyle, including their level of physical activity, after which over a period of years. I followed them to see how they work. When researchers compared the health outcomes of inactive participants — those that did lower than 150 minutes of moderate exercise every week — to those that exercised more, they found that only inactivity was related to an increased risk of breast and colon cancer. They calculated that inactivity is liable for greater than five million deaths worldwide annually, the identical variety of deaths brought on by smoking.
